MOTIVATED ABILITIES & SKILLS

The most important piece of information you need about yourself is your Motivated Abilities and Skills (MAS). These are your recurring patterns of accomplishments.

You identify these by analyzing your past achievements - those things you do well, enjoy doing, and want to continue doing in the future. You should organize your job search around your MAS in order to find jobs that best fit your pattern.

The process for identifying your MAS is detailed in I Want to Do Something Else, But I'm Not Sure What It Is (Impact Publications).

Start identifying your Motivated Abilities and Skills (MAS) by responding to these two questions:

  1. What abilities and skills have I always enjoyed using and want to continue using in the future?

  2. What jobs are the best fit for my MAS? (QUICK TIP: Review the 1,000+ jobs featured in the latest edition of The O*NET Dictionary of Occupational Titles, found at your local library or online: online.onetcenter.org)
